Concur on the date. There is no organized source for the data you are seeking. It would almost have to be provenance that has stayed with the horn.

The tubing and the valves are all smaller scale that American horns. The mouthpiece stem is even narrower to fit a narrower leadpipe receiver.
`

I'm wondering whether the smaller scale has more to do with its age rather than country of origin?

It does sound like a prime candidate for a fixer upper. It's not a valuable horn, but as you say it sounds fine. Most of them do. It helps if you have a shop or garage. It's all dirty work and often toxic. But, a good chance to practice on the basics. Preparation, soldering, buffing. It's all messy stuff. It's a lot of fun turning a pile of bad plumbing into a playable instrument.

A couple of great acquisitions. Another Rose & Co. I see. It would be interesting to know the circuitous route that instrument took between London, Bombay and your collection.

St Petersburg (Leningrad) and Odessa were the centers for Brass instrument production going back to the Czarist days. Germans and Czechs brought the traditions of brass instrument making to Russia. The old St Petersburg factory (who probably built this trombone) is still in business. There is no reason why the instruments should be inferior in any way to equivalent instruments from any country. I'm sure they made rough band instruments just like everywhere else but there is no reason why the better instruments wouldn't measure up. Development was certainly behind that of Europe. Russian production got underway later with input from people like Cerveny and Schediwa. The St Petersburg production began with the establishment of J.H. Zimmermann. Where would we be without the www.?

"ЛЕНИНГРАД" One thing to remember is that the Cyrillic alphabet and several others are available on any windows system using either the NumPad or the Character Map. All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Character Map. You can type out the inquiry then copy and paste it into the Search Engine.

Hi.
I play low brass and have recently acquired a few holder horns. My kids are all in elementary school and in my efforts to find a variety of horns for them to choose from as they experience concert band I now own some interesting horns. I have a Henri Selmer Cornet, a bunch of trombones, a Besson Sovereign Euph, and may soon have a few more trombones and a sousaphone (fiberglass and bright red!!).

I appreciate having access to such a comprehensive resource and horn-u-copia.
