Meisel was a dealer and used the ‘Beaumont‘ trade name for brass instruments. He was a dealer for Thibouville-Lamy. Their main business was stringed instruments.

  • 1859 Meisel born in Klingenthal, Saxony on July 23rd
  • 1875 emigrates to NYC in November (one Census says 1878)
  • 1878 establishes music business (according to later ads)
  • 1884 first directory listing at #339 E. 10th St.
  • 1887 marries Anna Caroline Stengel
  • 1888 musical instrument importer, #343 E. 10th St.
  • 1901 moves to #4 St. Marks Place
  • 1911 wife Anna dies in January; member of Moravian Church with the Zoebisch family
  • 1920 ad for C. Meisel, Inc says they are wholesale dealers, importers, manufacturers, & repairers of stringed instruments; established in 1878; no mention of brass
  • 1921 Charles Meisel dies on July 31 from blood poisoning
  • 1922 listed as American Rosin & Oil Co., #4 St. Marks Pl. (probably merchandise for stringed instruments)
  • 1932 published the Meisel method for accordeon
  • 1942 listed as selling harmonicas, #4 St. Mark’s Place
  • 1952 last year that C. Meisel, Inc. owns #4 St. Mark’s Place
