A performer turned maker from 1852 to 1890. Originally in partnership with Allen, he went on his own in 1854 and later partnered with Carl Lehnert in 1866.


1823 Benjamin is born in Sudbury, Mass.




1849-51 listed as musician working at Henry Prentiss’s music store, 33 Court St.



1852 now Allen & Richardson, inst. makers, 19 Harvard Pl. 1853 listed alone as inst. maker, no business address






1855 now at 19 Washington St.



1856 now at 26 Washington St.



1860 now at 5 Water St. with Carl Lehnert




1861 now Richardson & Bailey, 5 Water St., with John Bayley, Sr., a cornet player from England who designed a cornet with the bell below the valves







1862 back to just Richardson, 5 Water St., maker & importer 1863 now at 13 Water St., ad for Bayley model cornet




1864 now at 23 Water St.






1865 now at 38 Portland St.




1866 now Richardson & Lenhert (Carl), 38 Portland St. 1867-72 R&L at 46 Portland St.





1873-81 R&L at 13 Bowker St.




1878 listed as making cymbals & gongs



1882 Lehnert now has no business listing so perhaps they separated



1885 Richardson listed as making music stands



1894 now at 37 Pitts St., dies March 26th, 1894




1895 Richardson not listed, Lenhert now at 37 Pitts



1897 Lehnert dies
