6906 Trumpet Heald 37956
Keeferman: The Heald trumpet is a step bore design a little like the Martin Committee used decades later. The bore at the top of the tuning slide is .400, then expands through the bow to .438 at the bottom of the slide, then expands to .445 into the valve section. This cornet-like design gives the instrument a nice open feel in a medium bore horn. The bell cone is strictly trumpet-like, yielding a nice trumpet timbre with good depth to the tone due partly to the gold brass bell flare. The intonation is excellent, and the playing characteristics are quite good for what is essentially a late 19th century design.

Engraved: JOHN HEALD / MAKER / SPRINGFIELD MASS. / PAT.MAR.25.84 / PAT.AUG.13.89 / PAT.FEB.28.99 "Heald was in business from 1887-1927. He had trained with and worked for Isaac Fiske, and the high quality of his work bespeaks the legacy of Fiskes workshop. Healds cornets are considered second to none and are highly prized by collectors. His trumpets are of a quality equal to the cornets." Image used courtesy of Jeff Stockham
