Henry G. Lehnert, who built instruments in Philadelphia, produced several new instruments for the 1876 Centennial. Most notable were his baritones and tubas, which rested on top of ones shoulders facing forward, and his valve trombones, which featured side action rotary valves and a curved up leadpipe. Pryorphone: This trombone was constructed for high pitch, but even if lowered, this is the best playing and in-tune alto instrument I have ever found. I used it with The All-American Cornet Band for almost twenty years.
