3120 Cornet Wright
Engraved:Made by E.G. Wright & Co. Boston Length:12.5in Bell is 4.75in wardsd: This Bb EG Wright cornet is very interesting. Prior to it showing up on Ebay, nobody that I know had ever seen an EG Wright cornet with a single piece leadpipe. Does anyone know of any others? The significance to me, and the reason it came up before this cornet arrived on Ebay, is I own a 4-valve Bb EG Wright that clearly has had the single piece leadpipe replaced in a previous "restoration". I was getting ready to have this cornet restored, and returned to the "proper" two-piece leadpipe configuration. The only other examples I have seen, including the 4-valve in the Fiske museum, all have had the two-piece leadpipe. I know of one Boston 4-valve as well that has a two-piece leadpipe. However, with this Bb EG Wright, the entire horn appears to be original and is obviously a single leadpipe. The receiver and the receiver brace are very similar to this Bb so now I am unsure what the configuration should look like. pryorphone: I have never seen a Wright one piece that I noticed. When this one came up on eBay, I wrote it is condition off to previous restoration evidenced by the obvious bell cracks/crinkles behing ironed out and the finger catch on the bell being removed. wardsd: While I agree the cornet has had some minor work such as dent removal done to it (and what work was done was not done well, as evidence by the remaining ripples), It appears all parts are original. I won the cornet, and have inspected it up close, and I do not see even any evidence of resoldering. The missing finger hook is curious in that there appears to be an impression from it in the bell, but no solder remnants. I have not cleaned it yet so maybe there is some evidence under the grime. Overall this cornet is in exceptional original condition, at least to my eye. Only thing missing are the screws on the rotary valves. I will know more when Robb Stewart inspects it.
