| Colin: The Conn 88H is marketed as an orchestral tenor trombone although it may have had a bass trombone role early in its history due to its large bore .547".
This model has been in production since the 50s and remains one of the most popular trombones for orchestral tenor trombonists.
There were minor changes (in the 80s I think):
string valve linkages to mechanical linkages,
spring slide buffers replaced by cork,
the Remmington leadpipe was replaced by one compatible with other brands (eg Bach).
There are more options available now such as bell material.
I do not think you should remove it as the original pre-70s Elkhart made Conn trombones (especially 88H) are still seen as the benchmark by which orchestral large bore trombones are judged. Custom trombones by smaller producers are described by to what extent they are similar to Conn 88Hs or Bach 42Bs
