Description prinmancz: I Own the trumpet. It is made by Cleveland - Serial # C 956. IT IS LABELED: VARSITY USA ON THE BELL. IT IS FROM THE PERIOD 1919 to 1924 - pre- King... I also own a 1932 Cleveland made by king. Side by side they are virtually identical, same size, shape, etc. and the slides fit one another.... The only difference is the brace and the engraving. My "Varsity" with the serial # C 956 (if imported) would have had to have been imported by The Cleveland instrument Company. They were small and I do not know of them importing, but rather selling to King when they could no longer keep up the scale of instruments needed and were not able to grow for financial reasons. Then they sold to Mr. White and became part of the King Empire. As I said it is virtually identical to a serial # C 30843 Cleveland Trumpet I also own (and not that different from one I own in the C 3xx xxx range). I know there is a picture of it in horn-u-copia with the name of "Holton" in front of it, but this is not correct. Based on the serial number and the similarity to early Cleveland trumpets, it has to be a Cleveland. I had all my "Cleveland" slides in my "Varsity" last night (and vice-versa) with the exception of the tuning slide which is the same bore, but has a different radius, so only one side of the tubing will fit at a time...
