Description	Engraved: De Prins Bros Patented Antwerp Belgium Walter E Sear New York - NY A comment that was placed with the auction by Jack Kramer: The original imports Walter Sear brought in, during the late 50s and early 60s, from Belgium, were labeled either Mahillon, or DePrins, not DePins. A detachable bell-front bell was available. In the early 1960s, I was working with the Guy Lombardo band. I told Walter that I would not mind using a DePrins, but due to the front action valves, could not reach the music fast enough, and continued to use a Conn 24J, with top action valves, leaving the left hand completely free to find music with. Walter had the tubing modified just for me so that I could stick my left arm THROUGH the horn, right above the 2nd valve slide area. The instrument you see was so modified, as was the rest of the run of these tubas. The DePrins had much better response than the tubby Conn did, but Guy did not like either the silver finish or the somewhat smaller bell. Therefore I gave the DePrins back to Walter.
