Repairing Clockworks mechanisms

I've tinkered with clockworks some, but I've never previously had one where the spring quit working. But I was moving along nicely on this solo alto, when suddenly, the one spring quit working.

What is the procedure for getting one of these working again?

Here is a on how to disassemble and reassemble these spring housings.

It is a bit delicate and requires some tools that can be rather easily made.

When dealing with springs, remember eye protection!

Repair question. I have this horn that has these valves,

and it appears to my un- knowledgeable eye that the three valves are intended to be tied together with a square rod going through the center of them. But the rod has broken.

So, my questions are: 1) am I seeing the problem correctly, and 2) can I simply press this rod out of there and replace it with another or is the process more involved/different than what it appears to me.

It seems to me that on the clockworks trumpets that I've had, there were three separate shafts, and the middle two vertical holders each held an outer shaft plus the one of the centers.

Even if it were 1 shaft, the ends of three springs would be threaded though, so you cannot simply press it out without disassembling the clockworks parts first.

It looks from the pictures that perhaps it is just the vertical holders that are bent, and if you can just straighten the left 3 to be in line with the far right, it may be all that you need.

Yep, you are right, they are separate shafts. So, I will now try to re-position them to form a straight assembly.
