High Pitch Trombones

Sep 12th, 2007,

Stupid question - At the end of the 19th cent/beginning of the 20th cent., were high pitched trombones shorter or did players employ A slide positions as was done with the sackbut?

Don't know if I can state for all high-pitched trombones, but I have two Holton Specials, one high and one low, and they have different length slides.

They aren't pre-1900 though. I once had a pre-1900 Courtois and though I didn't document it, I'm certain the slide was shorter on it too.

I tried to put a newer conn slide on an "American Professional" trombone bell and found that 7th position to be in tune was off the slide. Original slide is, OK?
